His Excellency Geoffrey Jideofor Kwusike Onyeama is a distinguished Nigerian diplomat, international lawyer, and statesman with over four decades of experience in global diplomacy, international relations, economic development, and multilateral cooperation. He served as the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria from 2015 to 2023, where he played a pivotal role in strengthening Nigeria’s diplomatic engagement, regional cooperation, foreign investment promotion, and international development partnerships. Prior to his ministerial appointment, Geoffrey Onyeama built an exceptional career at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), a specialized agency of the United Nations headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. Having joined WIPO in 1985, he rose through several senior leadership positions and was appointed Deputy Director General responsible for the Development Sector, overseeing strategic programs supporting innovation, intellectual property, technology transfer, and sustainable development across developing nations. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Columbia University, New York, a Bachelor’s Degree in Law from St John’s College, Cambridge University, a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and a Master of Arts in Law from Cambridge University.
